50 Fun Date Ideas in Cape Town: From Cheap Days Out to Big-Splurge Adventures

Sep 5, 2026

Running out of date ideas? Maybe you’ve done the dinner dates, the movies and the usual Cape Town spots, and now you want something that feels a little more fun. Whether you’re planning a first date, trying to keep things interesting after a few years together or just need an idea for this weekend, we’ve put together 50 date ideas worth considering. Some are cheap, some are a splurge, but all of them give you something more interesting to do than sitting across a table wondering what to talk about.

1. Race Each Other at Cool Runnings

If you want a date that feels more playful than sitting across a table, Cool Runnings is an easy win. You each control your own wheeled toboggan down the track, so you can race each other, compare times and go around again if one run feels too quick. There’s also food and drinks on site, so you can stretch it into a couple of hours rather than treating it as a five-minute novelty.

  • Where: Off Carl Cronje Drive, Tygervalley

  • Cost: Adult tickets are currently R110 for one ride, R300 for three, R540 for six or R900 for 12. Online tickets are 10% cheaper.

  • Time to allow: Around 1-2 hours if you do a few rides and stop for something to eat.

  • Booking: You can buy tickets on site or online.

  • Good to know: Cool Runnings closes when it rains. Current opening hours are 11 am-6 pm Monday to Friday and 9 am-6 pm on weekends, public holidays and school holidays.

  • Official website/booking: Cool Runnings tickets and prices

2. Paint Ceramics Together at Clay Café

Clay Café works well when you want plenty of time to talk without making conversation the entire activity. You choose a ceramic piece, paint it however you like and hand it back to be glazed and fired afterwards. You can make something genuinely nice for your home, paint something for each other or accept from the beginning that neither of you has any artistic talent.

  • Where: Choose between Clay Café Hout Bay, Clay Café In the City on Bree Street, or Clay Café Paarl.

  • Cost: There is a studio fee per person, plus the ceramic item you choose. Prices vary by branch and piece, so check the current rates when booking.

  • Time to Allow: Around 2-3 hours.

  • Booking: Booking is recommended, especially during busy periods. The Clay Café website lets you choose between Hout Bay, In the City and Paarl when booking your table.

  • Good to Know: Finished pieces are glazed and fired after your visit, so you will need to collect them later.

  • Official Website / Booking: Clay Café

3. Go Snorkelling with Seals

This is definitely one of the bigger-spend dates on the list, but it is also one of the more memorable. Animal Ocean’s current Ocean Safari takes you out from Hout Bay towards Duiker Island and along the Atlantic coastline, with wildlife viewing from the boat and the option to snorkel in the kelp forest. Depending on conditions and wildlife on the day, you might see Cape fur seals, dolphins, penguins, sunfish or whales.

  • Where: Hout Bay Harbour

  • Cost: The current snorkelling Ocean Safari costs R2,950 per person.

  • Time to allow: Around four hours from arrival to departure.

  • Booking: Booking and full payment are required in advance.

  • Good to know: This is not a guaranteed “swim with the seals” experience. Animal Ocean decides where to snorkel based on the conditions on the day, although the normal safari route includes Duiker Island’s seal colony and close-up seal viewing. You need to be at least 10 years old, able to swim and under 120 kg to snorkel. Equipment is provided, and the water is typically around 10-15°C.

  • Official website/booking: Animal Ocean Safari

4. Watch the Sunset From a Catamaran

A sunset cruise is one of those Cape Town dates that still feels special even if you have lived here for years. Waterfront Charters runs 90-minute sunset cruises from the V&A Waterfront, with views back towards Table Mountain and the city as the light changes. It works particularly well for an anniversary or a date where you want something memorable without having to organise an entire evening around it.

  • Where: V&A Waterfront

  • Cost: The Sunset Champagne Cruise currently starts at R750 per person and includes two complimentary glasses of local sparkling wine. The Luxury Sunset Catamaran Cruise with Prosecco starts at R930 per person.

  • Time to Allow: 90 minutes for the cruise, plus extra time if you want to eat or have a drink at the Waterfront before or afterwards.

  • Booking: Booking ahead is recommended.

  • Good to Know: Departure times are scheduled around sunset, so check the time shown for your chosen date when booking.

5. See if You Can Escape a Room Together at HintHunt

An escape room gives you something to focus on from the moment the date starts, which makes it a good option if you want something more interactive than dinner or drinks. At HintHunt, the two of you work through clues and puzzles against the clock, so you will also find out fairly quickly which one of you stays calm under pressure and which one starts opening every drawer in sight.

  • Where: The Watershed, 17 Dock Road, V&A Waterfront
  • Cost: Escape Plan, The Old Hotel, Cursed Treasure and Shipwrecked currently cost R370 per person off-peak and R415 per person at peak times. MARBLE costs R395 off-peak and R445 peak.
  • Time to Allow: Around 75-90 minutes. Most rooms give you 60 minutes to escape, while MARBLE allows 75 minutes.
  • Booking: Book a specific room and time slot in advance.
  • Good to Know: You do not need a big group. All of the current rooms accommodate two players, so they work perfectly well as a couple’s date. HintHunt is currently at The Watershed in the V&A Waterfront.

6. Learn to Surf Together in Muizenberg

A beginner surf lesson is a great date if neither of you knows what you are doing, because you get to learn together and laugh at each other falling off. Gary’s Surf School supplies the wetsuits and boards, and Muizenberg’s gentler waves make it particularly well suited to first-timers. The standard beginner lesson gives you an hour with an instructor followed by another hour to practise on your own.

Couple running into the ocean with their surfboards on a date
  • Where: 34 Balmoral Building, Beach Road, Muizenberg

  • Cost: A two-hour group lesson currently costs R800 per person, including the wetsuit, surfboard and instructor.

  • Time to Allow: Around 2-3hours, including changing before and afterwards.

  • Booking: Book ahead. Lesson times change with the tides, so the school schedules sessions according to conditions rather than running them at the same time every day.

  • Good to Know: Bring a swimming costume, towel and sunscreen. The wetsuit and board are included. Gary’s Surf School is currently open seven days a week from 8 am-5 pm, except 25-26 December and 1 January.

  • Official Website/Booking: Gary's Surf School lessons

7. Go Quad Biking on the Atlantis Dunes

If you want something with a bit more adrenaline, quad biking across the white Atlantis dunes is a much better story than another coffee date. Atlantis Dunes runs guided rides on electric quad bikes, so even if neither of you has ridden one before, you are shown how everything works before heading out. Their standard experience is an hour long, with shorter 30-minute and private options also available.

Couple riding on a quad biking in Atlantis Dunes on a date
  • Where: Witzands Aquifer Nature Reserve, Atlantis

  • Cost: Around R500-R1,000 per person, depending on whether you choose a 30-minute, one-hour or private one-hour quad tour.

  • Time to Allow: Around 2 hours at the dunes, plus travel time from Cape Town. You are asked to arrive 30 minutes before your booked slot.

  • Booking: Book in advance. The operator allows refunds or rescheduling with at least 24 hours' notice.

  • Good to Know: Each adult rides their own quad bike. The standard tour lasts one hour, and the operator says weather rarely stops rides because conditions at Atlantis can be very different from Cape Town itself.

  • Official Website: Atlantis Dunes

8. Spend a Slow Morning at Groot Phesantekraal

You can make this date as relaxed as you want. Start with breakfast in the restaurant, move across to the tasting room for a guided wine tasting, or arrive later and turn it into a long lunch. Groot Phesantekraal works particularly well if you want the Winelands feeling without driving all the way to Stellenbosch or Franschhoek, and the tasting room is informal enough that you do not have to plan the whole day around a fixed booking slot.

Couple enjoying a wine tasting at a Cape Winelands estate
  • Where: Klipheuwel Road, R302, Durbanville

  • Cost: Groot Phesantekraal currently offers Estate, Reserve and seasonal tasting options. Prices vary depending on the tasting you choose. Check the current tasting menu before visiting.

  • Time to Allow: Around 1-2 hours for wine tasting, or closer to 3 hours if you combine it with breakfast or lunch.

  • Booking: The tasting room is walk-in only. For the restaurant, booking ahead is the better option.

  • Good to Know: The restaurant is currently open Tuesday to Sunday from 8:30 am - 4 pm, with the kitchen closing at 3:30 pm. The tasting room is open Tuesday to Saturday from 9 am - 5 pm and Sunday from 10 am- 4:30 pm, with last tastings at 4 pm.

  • Official Website: Groot Phesantekraal

9. Go Hiking in Jonkershoek Nature Reserve

If you want a date that gives you a proper day outdoors, Jonkershoek has everything from manageable two-hour walks to much tougher six-hour hikes through the mountains outside Stellenbosch. One of the easier options is Tweede Waterval at 6.4 km, while the longer Panorama Circuit and Swartboskloof Trail are both around 17-18 km. Some routes pass waterfalls and swimming spots, so taking a swimming costume is worthwhile.

Scenic view of Jonkershoek Valley during sunrise
  • Where: Jonkershoek Valley, around 9 km from Stellenbosch

  • Cost: Current day-hiking access is R70 per adult and R50 per child aged 4-17.

  • Time to Allow: Anywhere from 2 hours to most of the day, depending on the route you choose.

  • Booking: Hiking permits can be bought in advance or at the gate on the day.

  • Good to Know: Parking on the Jonkershoek circular route is currently closed until further notice, so visitors need to use the outside parking and walk roughly 5 km to reach the trails. Check CapeNature for the latest access information before you go. Individual hikes also have their own cut-off times.

  • Official Website: Jonkershoek Nature Reserve

10. Watch the Sunset From Kloof Corner

Kloof Corner is a good option if you want the views of Table Mountain without committing to one of the mountain’s longer hikes. It sits above the City Bowl and gives you wide views towards Lion’s Head, the Atlantic Seaboard and the city, so late afternoon is the obvious time to go if the weather is clear. This one is better suited to couples who are comfortable hiking rather than treating it as a completely casual walk.

  • Where: Table Mountain National Park, accessed from the Kloof Nek/Tafelberg Road side of the mountain

  • Cost: There is no separate Kloof Corner attraction ticket to book through SANParks.

  • Time to Allow: Allow around 1½-2 hours so you are not rushing the walk or the view.

  • Booking: None.

  • Good to Know: Mountain conditions can change quickly, so check the latest Table Mountain National Park alerts before setting out and make sure you know the route before you go.

  • Official Website: Table Mountain National Park

11. Take the Cableway Up Table Mountain

You do not need to hike to make a date out of Table Mountain. Take the cable car up together, walk around the top, find a viewpoint and stay long enough to properly enjoy being above the city rather than heading straight back down. There are also free guided walks from the Upper Cableway Station, so you can add a little more to the outing without paying for another activity.

Cableway lifting people to the top of Table Mountain
  • Where: Lower Cableway Station, Tafelberg Road

  • Cost: Current online adult tickets are R475 return or R300 one way. Buying at the ticket office costs R530 return or R330 one way. These rates are valid from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027.

  • Time to Allow: Around 2-3 hours, or longer if you want to eat, walk further across the top or stay for sunset.

  • Booking: Tickets can be bought online in advance or at the Lower Cableway Station.

  • Good to Know: The Cableway is weather-dependent and can close in strong winds, so check its operating status on the day. From 1 September to 31 October 2026, the first car goes up at 8:30 am, the last car up is at 6 pm, and the last car down is at 7 pm. Free 30-minute guided walks currently leave the Twelve Apostles Terrace hourly from 9 am-3 pm.

  • Official Website/Booking: Table Mountain Aerial Cableway tickets

12. Paint a Canvas Together at Artjamming

If Clay Café is about decorating something useful, Artjamming is the date where you get a blank canvas and see what happens. You choose your canvas, help yourself to the paints and tools and work at your own pace, with no art experience required. You could each paint your own piece, swap canvases halfway through or attempt portraits of each other if your relationship can survive the result.

A couple painting
  • Where: Artjamming’s Cape Town studio is currently at Wembley Square in Gardens. There is also a studio at Lourensford Wine Estate in Somerset West.
  • Cost: Walk-in painting currently starts at R200 for an A4 canvas, R250 for A3, R400 for a large canvas and R500 for XL. Paints, brushes, aprons and tools are included.
  • Time to Allow: Around 1½-2 hours, although casual walk-in painting currently has no set time limit.
  • Booking: Walk-ins are welcome, although Artjamming recommends booking ahead if you want to make sure there is space.
  • Good to Know: Everything you need is supplied, but Artjamming specifically recommends dressing for mess because acrylic paint can stain clothing. The Wembley Square studio is currently open daily from 9 am-5 pm.

Official Website / Booking: Artjamming

13. Go Horse Riding Along Noordhoek Beach

A horseback ride along Noordhoek’s huge stretch of white sand is one of the more memorable ways to spend a date outdoors. The ride leaves from Imhoff Farm in Kommetjie, crosses the wetlands and then heads onto Noordhoek Beach, where you get views towards Chapman’s Peak and can pass the remains of the Kakapo shipwreck. You do not need previous riding experience, so it works even if neither of you has been on a horse before.

Couple horse riding along Noordhoek beach on a date
  • Where: Depart from Imhoff Farm, Kommetjie, and ride onto Noordhoek Beach

  • Cost: R1,050 per person for the 1½-hour scheduled beach ride. Private rides are currently R2,100 per person.

  • Time to Allow: Around 2½ hours including the required early arrival, getting fitted with a helmet and the 90-minute ride.

  • Booking: Essential. Scheduled rides currently leave at 10 am and 3 pm, with check-in 30 minutes beforehand.

  • Good to Know: Riders must be at least 12 years old and weigh no more than 95 kg. The standard beach ride is a walking horseback tour, so there is no trotting, cantering or galloping. Wear long trousers and closed shoes. Because the stables are at Imhoff Farm, you could also stay for coffee or something to eat afterwards.

  • Official Website / Booking: Horse Riding Cape Town - Noordhoek Beach Rides

14. Spend an Afternoon Exploring Kalk Bay

Kalk Bay is a good option when you do not want to book one specific activity and would rather wander around and see where the afternoon takes you. Walk along Main Road through the small shops and galleries, head down to the working harbour to see the fishing boats and resident seals, stop for seafood or something sweet, and take a walk down towards Dalebrook tidal pool. Cape Town Tourism specifically highlights the harbour, Main Road, beaches and tidal pools as some of the neighbourhood’s main attractions.

Scenic view of Kalk Bay harbour and its surrounding mountains
  • Where: Kalk Bay, False Bay coast

  • Cost: Free to explore, with whatever you choose to spend on food, drinks or shopping.

  • Time to Allow: Around 3-4 hours, although it is easy to turn it into most of the day.

  • Booking: None for exploring the neighbourhood. If there is somewhere specific you want to eat, book that separately.

  • Good to Know: Dalebrook tidal pool is close enough to include if the weather is good, so take swimming costumes if you think you might want a swim. Kalk Bay is also known for fresh seafood, with restaurants around the harbour and along Main Road.

  • Official Area Guide: Cape Town Tourism Kalk Bay

15. Visit the Penguins at Boulders Beach

Seeing African penguins waddling around a beach is difficult to make boring, even if you have done plenty of Cape Town’s usual attractions already. Boulders is home to a protected breeding colony, with boardwalks that take you through the colony and down towards the sheltered beach. You can make this a relatively quick visit to see the penguins or stay longer and spend some time at the beach afterwards.

Group of penguins on the sand at Boulders Beach
  • Where: Boulders Beach, Simon’s Town

  • Cost: Until 31 October 2026, South African citizens and residents pay R55 per adult and R26 per child aged 2-11. SADC visitors pay R110/R55, while international visitors pay R245/R120.

  • Time to Allow: Around 1½-3 hours, depending on whether you only see the colony or spend some time on the beach too.

  • Booking: You can buy SANParks gate tickets online in advance or pay at the gate. Online tickets do not guarantee immediate entry if the site has reached visitor capacity.

  • Good to Know: Your Boulders entrance ticket includes access to Boulders Beach itself, not only the penguin viewing area. Stay on the boardwalks around the colony and do not touch or feed the penguins. South Africans need proof of citizenship or residency to qualify for the local rate.

  • Official Website/Tickets: Boulders Penguin Colony

16. Pack a Picnic for Kirstenbosch or Plan Around a Summer Sunset Concert

Kirstenbosch is an easy date to make as relaxed or planned as you want. On an ordinary day, take a blanket and a picnic, wander through the gardens and find a spot on the lawns with Table Mountain behind you. In summer, you can make more of it by booking one of the Kirstenbosch Summer Sunset Concerts and bringing your picnic along for the show.

  • Where: Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden, Newlands

  • Cost: Current 2026/27 garden entry for South African residents and SADC nationals is R110 per adult, with proof of residency or ID. Concert tickets are priced separately and vary by performance.

  • Time to Allow: Around 3-4 hours for a picnic and walk, or most of the afternoon and early evening if you are going to a concert.

  • Booking: Ordinary garden entry can be bought online. Summer Sunset Concert tickets need to be booked separately once the season line-up is released.

  • Good to Know: Picnics are allowed, but chairs, tables, umbrellas and braais are not permitted in the garden.

  • Official Website: Kirstenbosch visitor information

17. Watch a Movie Under the Stars at The Galileo

The Galileo turns movie night into much more of a date. Instead of sitting inside a cinema, you watch a film outdoors at venues around Cape Town and the Winelands, with food and drinks available before the movie starts. The programme usually mixes rom-coms, classics and newer releases, so the best approach is to check the line-up and choose a film and venue you both like.

Couple enjoying a outdoor cinema expreience as a date
  • Where: Various venues around Cape Town and the Cape Winelands, including Kirstenbosch and Century City

  • Cost: Ticket prices vary by screening, so check the current programme when booking.

  • Time to Allow: Around 3-4 hours including arrival, food and the film.

  • Booking: Book once your chosen screening is released.

  • Good to Know: The Galileo’s 2026/27 season will run from October 2026 to May 2027, so it’s best to check the website for screenings.

  • Official Website/Booking: The Galileo Open Air Cinema

18. Go Stargazing at an SAAO Open Night

If you want something different that does not cost much, spend an evening at the South African Astronomical Observatory in Observatory. Its public Open Nights combine an astronomy or physics talk with a guided look through the historic buildings, museum and library, followed by telescope viewing if the weather cooperates. It feels more like a proper experience than simply driving somewhere dark and hoping you can work out what you are looking at.

Coupe stargazing the night sky
  • Where: South African Astronomical Observatory, Observatory

  • Cost: R50 per person. Children under six enter free.

  • Time to Allow: Around 2 hours. Current Open Nights run from 8 pm-10 pm, with vehicles allowed onto the site from 7:30 pm.

  • Booking: Book for a specific Open Night through the SAAO website.

  • Good to Know: Open Nights are held on the second and fourth Saturday of every month. Telescope viewing is weather-dependent, but the presentation and guided visit still form part of the evening. SAAO recommends the experience for ages 12 and up.

  • Official Website/Booking: SAAO Cape Town Open Nights

19. Take a Boat to Robben Island and Tour the Island

Robben Island is less of a lighthearted date and more of a proper day out, but it is one of those Cape Town experiences that gives you plenty to talk about afterwards. The standard tour includes the ferry from the V&A Waterfront, transport around the island and a visit to the Maximum Security Prison. The whole experience takes around 3½–4 hours, so it works well if you want to make a full afternoon of it rather than squeeze in a quick activity.

Aerial view of Robben island
  • Where: Ferries depart from the Nelson Mandela Gateway at the V&A Waterfront

  • Cost: South African adults currently pay R400 per person. Non-South African adults pay R600 per person.

  • Time to Allow: Around 4 hours for the standard tour.

  • Booking: Book ahead, especially during busy periods. Current peak-season departures are at 9 am, 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm.

  • Good to Know: Arrive at least 30 minutes before departure. The ferries are weather-dependent, and there are no restaurants on the island, although a small shop sells snacks and drinks. You can also take your own food, but not alcohol.

  • Official Website/Booking: Robben Island Museum tours

20. Go Kayaking Along Cape Town’s Coastline

Kayaking gives you a completely different view of Cape Town without requiring any previous experience. Atlantic Outlook’s current two-hour tour leaves from the V&A Waterfront and paddles along the Atlantic Seaboard past the Green Point lighthouse before heading back. Wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, but dolphins, seals, penguins, sunfish and whales can all be encountered along this stretch of coastline.

  • Where: Granger Bay, V&A Waterfront

  • Cost: R600 per person

  • Time to Allow: About 2½-3 hours, including check-in and the two-hour paddle.

  • Booking: Book ahead through Atlantic Outlook.

  • Good to Know: No kayaking experience is required. The tour is weather and sea-condition dependent, so dates can move if conditions are unsafe. Atlantic Outlook also offers a Boulders Beach kayaking experience, although that one currently requires an enquiry rather than direct online booking.

  • Official Website/Booking: Atlantic Outlook kayak tours

21. Spend an Afternoon on the Sea Point Promenade

This is one of the easiest low-cost dates on the list because you can make it as simple or as active as you like. Walk the Promenade with a coffee or ice cream, or hire bikes and cruise between Sea Point, Mouille Point and the Waterfront. Up Cycles has rental stations at the Sea Point Pavilion and Prom Park in Mouille Point, and they even have tandem bikes if you are brave enough to test your coordination together.

Couple enjoying a calming walk along Sea Point Promenade in Cape Town
  • Where: Sea Point Promenade

  • Cost: Up Cycles currently advertises rentals from R119, with helmets and locks included.

  • Time to Allow: Around 1-3 hours, depending on whether you walk, cycle or stop for food along the way.

  • Booking: Standard bikes can be hired on arrival, or booked ahead.

  • Good to Know: Up Cycles is open seven days a week unless there is heavy rain. Its Sea Point and Mouille Point stations currently operate from 8 am to sunset in summer and 8:30 am to sunset in winter. Bikes can also be returned to a different Up Cycles station, which gives you some flexibility with your route.

  • Official Website / Booking: Up Cycles bike rentals

22. Play Putt-Putt by the Sea

Sea Point’s putt-putt course is simple, cheap and just competitive enough to make it feel like a proper date rather than another walk along the Promenade. There are two 18-hole courses, one easier and one more challenging, so you can pick your level or play both if neither of you is ready to admit defeat. Afterwards, you are already right on the Promenade for a walk, coffee or ice cream.

Couple enjoying a game of Putt-Putt
  • Where: Beach Road, Mouille Point / Sea Point Promenade

  • Cost: R48 per person for a round.

  • Time to Allow: Around 30-45 minutes for one course, or longer if you play both and spend some time on the Promenade afterwards.

  • Booking: Not normally necessary.

  • Good to Know: The course is outdoors, so choose a reasonably wind-free day if you can. There are two 18-hole courses, giving you the option of an easier or more challenging game.

  • Official Facebook Page: Cape Town Putt Putt

23. Spend the Morning at Oranjezicht City Farm Market

This is a good day when you want to wander, eat and browse without having to plan much in advance. Oranjezicht City Farm Market brings together produce from local farmers, artisan food traders and independent makers, so you can grab breakfast or lunch, try a few different things and walk around at your own pace. It is also now in its new market space across the road from its previous Granger Bay location, so make sure you head to the current entrance rather than relying on an old pin.

Couple walking through and buying fresh produce from a Local Farmers market in Cape Town
  • Where: Corner of Granger Bay Boulevard and Dock Road, V&A Waterfront

  • Cost: Entry is free; what you spend depends on what you eat or buy.

  • Time to Allow: Around 1½–3 hours.

  • Booking: None.

  • Good to Know: The market currently trades Saturday from 8 am – 2:30 pm and Sunday from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm. There is also a Wednesday Night Market from 4 pm – 9:30 pm, except during June and July. The market moved into its new space in December 2025.

  • Official Website: Oranjezicht City Farm Market

24. Take on the Treetop Obstacles at Acrobranch Constantia

If you want a date where you are both doing something rather than just watching, Acrobranch gives you high ropes, swinging obstacles, balance challenges and zip lines through the trees at Constantia Nek. There are several courses at different difficulty levels, so you do not need to go straight for the hardest one. For adults, the beginner Monkey Moves course is an easy starting point, while Swinging Tarzan and High Flying add more height and more difficult obstacles.

  • Where: 1 Hout Bay Main Road, Constantia Nek

  • Cost: Current adult-suitable options include Monkey Moves at R210, Swinging Tarzan at R250, Green Combo at R260, Blue Combo at R300, High Flying with one Big Zip at R310, or High Flying with multiple Big Zips at R360.

  • Time to Allow: Around 2-3 hours, depending on the course you choose.

  • Booking: Book ahead. Acrobranch says participation cannot be guaranteed if you arrive without a booking, and bookings are confirmed once full payment has been received.

  • Good to Know: From September to April, the Constantia park is currently open Wednesday to Sunday from 9 am-6 pm, with the last activity slot at 4 pm. Adult courses have minimum height requirements, generally from 1.2 m to 1.3 m, depending on the course. The park is cash-free.

  • Official Website/Booking: Acrobranch Constantia

25. Zipline Through the Hottentots Holland Mountains

Cape Canopy Tour is a proper half-day adventure rather than a quick zipline. You travel into the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve by 4x4 before working your way across 11 ziplines, 13 elevated platforms and a suspension bridge over a double waterfall. The longest slide stretches up to 320 metres, so this is a good choice if you both want something memorable enough to build the whole day around.

Couple getting ready to zipline together
  • Where: Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve near Grabouw, around an hour from Cape Town

  • Cost: R1275 per person

  • Time to Allow: Around 4½ hours for the full experience, plus travel time from Cape Town.

  • Booking: Book and pre-pay in advance. Direct bookings can currently be cancelled for a full refund up to 24 hours beforehand.

  • Good to Know: No previous ziplining experience is needed, but there is a roughly 1 km walk out of the mountain afterwards, so a reasonable level of fitness helps. Wear comfortable shoes and take warm layers because mountain weather can change quickly.

  • Official Website/Booking: Cape Canopy Tour

26. Freewheel Down Table Mountain on a Scootour

Scootours gives you two downhill runs without the effort of cycling uphill first. You start with a shuttle to Signal Hill and freewheel down towards Bo-Kaap, then head up Table Mountain for a second run through Deer Park towards Oranjezicht. The scooters are gravity-powered rather than motorised, and you control your own speed, so the experience is more about sweeping downhill tracks and Cape Town views than racing flat-out.

Person riding a downhill scooter on a scenic mountain trail
  • Where: Tours start at the Kloof Nek parking area

  • Cost: The operator's current 2026 rate sheet lists the Cape Town driver ticket at R980 per person.

  • Time to Allow: Around 1½-2 hours.

  • Booking: Check live availability and book online in advance.

  • Good to Know: You need to be able to ride and balance a bicycle to drive your own scooter. The current 2026 rate sheet also lists a minimum tour capacity of four driver tickets, so if there are only two of you, choose a departure that already has enough bookings or confirm availability before paying.

  • Official Website/Booking: Scootours Table Mountain

27. Cook Dinner Together at Food Jams

Food Jams is much more fun than simply booking another restaurant table because you make the meal yourselves. Their public cooking classes are hosted experiences where you prepare a themed menu with guidance from the Food Jams team before sitting down to eat what you have made. Current 2026 classes include cuisines such as Indian, Japanese and Mediterranean, so you can choose something you both genuinely want to learn rather than committing to a generic cooking lesson.

Couple cooking dinner together on a date at Food Jams
  • Where: Soute Studio, 45 Yew Street, Salt River

  • Cost: Current public cooking classes are R550 per person and include the cooking experience and a welcome drink.

  • Time to Allow: Around 2½ hours. Current public classes generally run from 6 pm-8:30 pm.

  • Booking: Book tickets for one of the scheduled public classes in advance.

  • Good to Know: For a couple, choose a public cooking class, not the private Signature Jam. The private experience currently requires a minimum of six guests, whereas the public classes sell individual tickets and are therefore much better suited to a date. Upcoming classes are listed on the Food Jams website.

  • Official Website / Booking: Food Jams

28. Go Ice Skating at GrandWest

The Ice Station at GrandWest has the only indoor ice rink in the Western Cape, and you do not need to know what you are doing beforehand. If both of you are beginners, half the fun is trying to stay upright, and because the rink is indoors, it also gives us a genuinely useful rainy-day date option.

  • Where: GrandWest, Goodwood

Bowling is an easy date when you want something competitive without needing any particular skill or fitness level. GrandWest has 12 bowling lanes, complete with glow-in-the-dark features and Cosmic Lighting, so it feels more like an activity than simply filling an hour before dinner. You can also stay at GrandWest afterwards for food or another activity if you want to extend the date.

30. Play Padel Together

Padel is easy enough for beginners to pick up quickly, so you do not need to be regular tennis players for this to work as a date. The smaller court and surrounding walls keep rallies going more easily than traditional tennis, which makes it competitive without becoming painfully serious. Africa Padel currently has several Western Cape clubs, including Camps Bay and Claremont, so you can choose whichever works best for you.

31. Spend an Afternoon at the Two Oceans Aquarium

The Two Oceans Aquarium works well when you want an easy indoor date that still gives you plenty to look at and talk about. You can wander through the exhibits at your own pace, see marine life from both the Atlantic and Indian Oceans, and stay as long as you like on a standard day ticket. It is also a useful rainy-day option because the whole experience is indoors.

32. Visit the Museum and Planetarium, Then Walk Through the Company’s Garden

This one works nicely as a full afternoon because everything is clustered together. Start at the Iziko South African Museum, catch a show in the Planetarium and Digital Dome next door, then take a walk through the Company’s Garden afterwards. The museum has everything from fossils and insects to historical artefacts, while the Planetarium gives you a completely different experience without needing to drive anywhere else.

33. Watch a Film at the Labia Theatre

The Labia is a much better date option than a standard multiplex if you want movie night to feel a little different. It is Cape Town’s oldest independent art-repertory cinema, with four screens, an old-world interior and a garden terrace where you can have a drink or coffee before or after the film. The programme mixes mainstream releases with independent films, festivals and special screenings, so there is usually something more interesting than the usual blockbuster line-up.

34. Catch a Live Show at the Barnyard Theatre

The Barnyard is a good date when you want live entertainment without the formality of a traditional theatre. 35. Go to a Comedy Night at Ground Culture

A comedy night is an easy way to make drinks or dinner feel like more of an occasion. Ground Culture in Observatory runs regular stand-up nights in a small 60-seat venue, so it is much more intimate than watching comedy in a huge arena.

37. Drive Chapman’s Peak and Stop for a Picnic

Chapman’s Peak is one of those drives where the drive itself is the activity. The road winds between Hout Bay and Noordhoek with ocean and mountain views almost the entire way, and there are places to pull over and stop rather than simply driving straight through. Pack something to eat, take your time and choose one of the scenic stops for a picnic before carrying on towards Noordhoek or Hout Bay. The official Chapman’s Peak site still lists driving, sightseeing and picnicking among the main things to do along the route.

38. Walk Around Silvermine, Picnic by the Dam and Go for a Swim

Silvermine is ideal if you want something outdoors without committing to a strenuous hike. Gate One gives you access to the dam, a wheelchair-friendly boardwalk, picnic areas and a range of trails, so you can do a short walk first and then settle beside the water with a picnic. Swimming in the dam is also allowed, which makes this especially good in warmer weather.

  • Booking: None for ordinary day entry.

  • Good to Know: The boardwalk around the dam takes roughly 25 minutes. Swimming is at your own risk, and there are no lifeguards. SANParks also prohibits canoes, SUPs, surf skis and similar craft on the reservoir, so floaties should stay simple rather than turning into proper watercraft.

39. Spend the Day Exploring Cape Point

Cape Point is worth treating as a full-day date rather than driving in, taking one photo and leaving. You can walk up towards the lighthouse, use the Flying Dutchman funicular if you do not feel like climbing, stop at viewpoints, look out for wildlife and spend some time exploring the beaches and picnic areas around the Cape of Good Hope section. SANParks also lists hiking, picnicking, beach visits and wildlife viewing among the things you can do inside the reserve.

40. Go Snorkelling at Seaforth, Boulders or Windmill Beach

If you would rather do your own thing than book a guided snorkelling trip, the sheltered coves around Simon’s Town are a good option. Windmill Beach is particularly well suited to swimming and is also used by dive schools, while Seaforth has calmer, shallower water and grassy areas for a picnic. You could take snorkels, spend some time in the water and then stop somewhere nearby for lunch afterwards or take a picnic.

  • Use Google Maps to help you find the beach you would like to visit.

41. Have a Beach Day at Blouberg

Blouberg is one of the easiest places to turn a sunny day into a date without spending much. Take towels and something to eat, spend a few hours on the beach and enjoy one of the best straight-on views of Table Mountain in Cape Town. If the wind picks up or you have had enough of the sand, there are plenty of cafés, pubs and restaurants nearby where you can carry on the date.

42. Grab a Coffee and Wander Through Durbanville Rose Garden

Durbanville Rose Garden is a simple, low-cost date that works well when you want somewhere pretty to walk without planning a whole day around it. The City-owned garden covers around 3.5 hectares and has thousands of rose bushes across hundreds of cultivars, with paths running through the grounds. Pick up coffee nearby first and then spend an hour wandering through the garden when the roses are in bloom.

43. Try Tandem Paragliding From Signal Hill or Lion’s Head

If you want a date that you are both going to remember, tandem paragliding gives you a completely different view of Cape Town. Fly Cape Town launches mainly from Signal Hill, or from Lion’s Head when the wind allows, with an experienced tandem instructor handling the technical side while you take in the views over the city and Atlantic Seaboard. No previous paragliding experience is needed.

  • Official Website/Booking: Fly Cape Town Paragliding

44. Take a Scenic Helicopter Flight Over Cape Town

This is definitely one of the splurge dates on the list, but Cape Town is particularly impressive from the air. Cape Town Helicopters flies from the V&A Waterfront, with routes ranging from shorter Atlantic Seaboard flights to trips that continue around both sides of the peninsula. For a couple wanting something special without turning it into a whole-day experience, the scenic coastline routes are probably the sweet spot.

45. Dance Together at a Secret Sunrise Event

Secret Sunrise is essentially a silent disco with a little more structure. You are given wireless headphones and guided through music, movement and dance by facilitators, with Cape Town sessions taking place in places such as beaches, parks and rooftops. It is a good option if you want something genuinely different and do not mind looking slightly ridiculous together in public.

46. Pick Your Own Roses at Chart Farm

Chart Farm is a lovely low-key date if you want something romantic without making a huge production of it. You can wander through the rose garden, choose your favourites and cut your own flowers to take home. Once you are done, stay for breakfast, lunch, cake or tea at the on-site café, which looks out over the Constantia Valley. Chart Farm says it is the only place on the Cape Peninsula where you can pick your own roses.

47. Take a Scenic Peninsula Drive and Stop Along the Way

Make the drive itself the date by heading around the southern peninsula through places like Glencairn, Scarborough, Misty Cliffs, Kommetjie and Noordhoek. Rather than trying to cover every attraction, stop when something looks good. Imhoff Farm is an easy place to wander around, shop or grab something to eat, while Noordhoek Farm Village has restaurants, shops, live entertainment, a bakery and handcrafted ice cream.

48. Book a Spa Day at Lanzerac

Lanzerac works well when you want a proper indulgent date rather than simply booking two massages and leaving. From City Dates to a Slow Morning in the Winelands

Whether you want something active, low-key, creative or a little more special, the best date ideas are the ones that give you something to enjoy together. Cape Town makes that pretty easy, with enough options here to keep you going for a good few weekends without falling back on the same dinner-and-a-movie routine.

If you’re heading towards Durbanville, Groot Phesantekraal is an easy one to add to your list of date ideas. Come through for breakfast, lunch or a relaxed wine tasting and spend a few unhurried hours on the farm.
